Travel Program Overview

The FYBA Traveling Basketball Program is designed for players seeking a more competitive basketball experience and advanced skill development. Participants are selected through a tryout process and placed on teams based on skill level, competitive balance, and developmental readiness.

The travel program emphasizes advanced basketball instruction, team concepts, competitive gameplay, and preparation for middle school, high school, and future levels of competition. Participation typically requires a greater commitment, including more frequent practices, travel, and regional tournament play.

Registration

  • Registration typically opens early July and runs through the end of August.


Scholarships

  • Limited scholarships are available. 


Tryouts

  • Are held in September.


Length of Season

  • Practices start in October
  • Tournaments typically start the first weekend in November and run through March. 


Practices

  • Typically 2 practices a week
  • Practices days will range and can include Wednesdays and Fridays
  • The start times are the preference of the head coach.
  • Most teams usually start at 6pm, 6:30pm, 7pm or 7:30pm.
  • But all teams could have an occasional 8pm start.


Games

  • Teams play in weekend tournaments over the season. 
  • The final tournament will be the State Tournament in the metro.


Volunteer Requirements

  • Each family is asked to fulfill (2) volunteer shifts regardless of number of registered players in a household
  • Each family must provide a $400 volunteer check to be collected at tryouts.
  • Only 1 check per household is required.
  • Players cannot participate until the volunteer check has been received.
  •  Checks will only be cashed at the end of season if volunteer shifts have not been completed.


Uniform

  • Required Items
  • Jersey
  • Shorts
  • Practice Jersey
  • Jersey Numbers
  • Players who played in the program last season will have their same jersey number.
  • Those who did not play last season will have their jersey number auto assigned.
  • We do not take jersey number requests. 


Basketball Sizes

  • Girls and boys in 3rd and 4th grade use a 27.5 ball.
  • Girls 5th grade and up and boys 5th and 6th grade use a 28.5 ball.
  • Boys 7th and 8th grade use a men's regulation size ball 29.5.

  • Develop players at a higher competitive level based on ability
  • Improve advanced basketball skills and game understanding
  • Prepare athletes for middle school, high school, and future competitive play
  • Provide structured coaching and consistent development standards
  • Compete against stronger regional competition
  • Foster accountability, commitment, discipline, and teamwork
  • Build team strategy, execution, and competitive resilience
