Organizational Overvierw

The Farmington Youth Basketball Association (FYBA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing children in Farmington with opportunities to learn, play, and grow through the game of basketball. FYBA serves players in grades K–8 through two distinct programs designed to meet a wide range of developmental and competitive interests: the In-House Basketball Program and the Traveling Basketball Program.

FYBA is governed by a volunteer board and is committed to creating a positive, constructive, and development-focused basketball experience. Across all levels of play, the organization emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, skill development, respect, and personal growth while helping players prepare for future basketball opportunities should they choose to continue competing.

Key objectives include:

• Maintaining a volunteer board and coordinator structure capable of effectively supporting program operations and organizational goals
• Expanding participation opportunities for youth basketball players within the community
• Managing organizational finances responsibly through the adoption and oversight of an annual operating budget
• Helping minimize financial barriers for families by offering fundraising opportunities when appropriate

Player development is a central focus of FYBA at all levels of participation and competition.

Key objectives include:

• Providing access to professional instruction and development opportunities for players and coaches
• Establishing and communicating clear expectations regarding player skill development, effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork
• Conducting meaningful evaluations of teams, coaches, and players to help ensure continued growth and development throughout the program
• Supporting age-appropriate instruction that emphasizes fundamentals, basketball IQ, confidence, and long-term athletic development

Strong leadership and quality coaching are essential to creating a positive and productive basketball experience.

• Continually recruiting, developing, and retaining qualified and dedicated coaches
• Clearly communicating coaching expectations, standards, and program philosophies
• Providing ongoing oversight, mentorship, and support to coaches throughout the season
• Encouraging participation in coaching education and training opportunities offered through professional basketball development organizations and skills trainers

FYBA believes strong community partnerships enhance the experience and opportunities available to players and families.

Key objectives include:

• Collaborating with Farmington High School basketball coaches to promote alignment, communication, and player development across all levels of basketball within the community
• Working cooperatively with the Farmington Area Public Schools and local city officials to support program goals and maintain access to quality facilities and resources
• Coordinating with other youth activity organizations to help create a balanced and positive experience for student-athletes and families
• Recognizing that basketball is a winter activity and striving to minimize unnecessary conflicts with other sports and extracurricular activities during their primary seasons
