Code of Conduct
The Farmington Youth Basketball Association (FYBA) is committed to providing a positive, safe, supportive, and development-focused environment where every player has the opportunity to develop basketball fundamentals, improve their skills, build confidence, and grow as both an athlete and a person.
Our Basketball Program emphasizes skill development, teamwork, competitive play, sportsmanship, and preparing players for success at the middle school, high school, and beyond.
Participation in FYBA is a privilege. Every player, parent, coach, volunteer, and spectator shares responsibility for creating an environment that reflects the values of our association and the standards established by the Minnesota Youth Athletic Services.
The safety and well-being of our athletes will always be our highest priority.
Core Principles
All members of the FYBA community agree to:
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and respect at all times.
- Place player development, learning, and enjoyment of the game above winning.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play.
- Treat all participants with dignity and respect regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, disability, or ability.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for every athlete.
- Respect the rules of basketball and compete within both the letter and spirit of the game.
- Model positive behavior that reflects favorably on our players, teams, association, and community.
Player Code of Conduct
As an FYBA player, I agree to:
- Follow all FYBA, MYAS, tournament, and league rules and policies.
- Attend practices, games, and team activities whenever possible. Absences should only occur because of illness, injury, family emergencies, or with prior approval from the head coach.
- Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to compete with a positive attitude.
- Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators with courtesy and respect.
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship before, during, and after every practice and game.
- Respect officials and accept their decisions without arguing or displaying unsportsmanlike behavior.
- Refrain from using profanity, abusive language, taunting, threatening behavior, or inappropriate gestures.
- Encourage teammates and place team success above individual recognition.
- Wear proper, safe, and well-maintained uniforms and equipment.
- Respect school facilities, tournament sites, locker rooms, and all property.
- Never engage in bullying, hazing, intimidation, harassment, discrimination, or retaliation.
Anti-Bullying
FYBA has zero tolerance for bullying.
Bullying includes repeated words or actions intended to intimidate, embarrass, exclude, threaten, or harm another individual. Bullying interferes with a player's ability to learn, compete, and enjoy basketball while negatively impacting the team environment. Bullying, whether in person, electronically, or through social media, will not be tolerated.
Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
As a parent or guardian, I agree to:
- Remember that youth basketball exists for the benefit and enjoyment of the players.
- Never force my child to participate.
- Make every reasonable effort to have my child attend practices and games.
- Support coaches, officials, volunteers, and board members in providing a positive experience.
- Allow coaches to coach and refrain from coaching players from the sidelines unless specifically asked by the coaching staff.
- Learn the rules of basketball and follow all FYBA and MYAS policies.
- Encourage effort, learning, teamwork, and good sportsmanship over winning.
- Be a positive role model by demonstrating respect for players, coaches, officials, volunteers, opponents, and spectators.
- Never publicly criticize, intimidate, harass, or threaten officials, coaches, players, volunteers, or spectators.
- Address concerns privately with the coach or appropriate FYBA representative at an appropriate time—not during practices, games, or immediately following competition.
- Respect all facilities and property.
- Comply with all ISD 192 facility policies, including the prohibition of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, and illegal substances on school property.
Spectator Expectations
All spectators are expected to:
- Cheer positively for all participants.
- Respect players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and other spectators.
- Refrain from yelling instructions to players or coaches.
- Never use profanity, abusive language, taunting, or threatening behavior.
- Respect the decisions of game officials.
- Help create an environment that promotes learning, confidence, and enjoyment of the game.
Sportsmanship
Sportsmanship is fundamental to the mission of FYBA.
Winning is valued, but never at the expense of integrity, respect, player development, or fair play.
All participants are expected to:
- Compete with honor.
- Play by the rules.
- Respect opponents.
- Display humility in victory.
- Show grace in defeat.
- Represent FYBA with pride and professionalism.
Violations and Discipline
FYBA expects all participants to uphold this Code of Conduct throughout the entire basketball season, including practices, games, tournaments, team events, travel, and any activity associated with the association.
Conduct that violates this Code may result in disciplinary action, including:
- Verbal warning
- Written warning
- Removal from a practice or game
- Suspension from practices and/or games
- Suspension from attending FYBA events
- Removal from coaching or volunteer responsibilities
- Dismissal from the FYBA program without refund
FYBA reserves the right to dismiss any player, parent, coach, volunteer, or spectator whose conduct significantly disrupts the team or association, jeopardizes the safety or well-being of others, or continues after prior warnings.

A Commitment to FYBA
By participating in the Farmington Youth Basketball Association, all players, parents/guardians, coaches, volunteers, and spectators acknowledge that they have read, understand, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Together, we commit to creating an environment where every athlete can develop as a player, teammate, and person while representing FYBA with honesty, integrity, respect, and sportsmanship.
