Competitive Basketball
Competitive Program Overview
The FYBA Competitive Basketball Program is designed for players seeking a higher level of basketball competition and advanced skill development. Participants are selected through a tryout process and placed on teams based on skill level, competitive balance, and developmental readiness.
The program emphasizes advanced basketball instruction, team concepts, higher-level gameplay, and preparation for middle school, high school, and future levels of competition. Participation typically requires a greater commitment, including more frequent practices, local travel, and regional tournament play..
Registration
- Registration typically opens early July and runs through the end of August.
Scholarships
- Limited scholarships are available.
Tryouts
- Are held in September.
Length of Season
- Practices start in October
- Tournaments typically start the first weekend in November and run through March.
Practices
- Typically 2 practices a week
- Practices days will range and can include Wednesdays and Fridays
- The start times are the preference of the head coach.
- Most teams usually start at 6pm, 6:30pm, 7pm or 7:30pm.
- But all teams could have an occasional 8pm start.
Games
- Teams play in weekend tournaments over the season.
- Tournaments are typical local, however there could be an occasional overnight stay.
- The final tournament will be the State Tournament.
Volunteer Requirements
- Each family is asked to fulfill (2) volunteer shifts regardless of number of registered players in a household
- Each family must provide a $400 volunteer check to be collected at tryouts.
- Only 1 check per household is required.
- Players cannot participate until the volunteer check has been received.
- Checks will only be cashed at the end of season if volunteer shifts have not been completed.

- Players who participated in the program during the previous season will retain their jersey number.
- Players who did not participate in the previous season will be assigned a jersey number.
- Jersey number requests are not accepted..
Basketball Sizes
- Girls and boys in 3rd and 4th grade use a 27.5 ball.
- Girls 5th grade and up and boys 5th and 6th grade use a 28.5 ball.
- Boys 7th and 8th grade use a men's regulation size ball 29.5.
